Weight-loss surgery could cut cancer risk in half

For patients with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery, losing at least 20 to 35 percent of total body weight is associated with a more than 50 percent reduction in the risk for cancer, according to a study presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and The Obesity Society (ObesityWeek), held from Nov. 3 to 7 in Las Vegas.
