Meet Renee Landers, a 70-year-old grandmother from Houston, Texas, who began competing in bikini competitions at the age of 69.
Despite initially starting weightlifting at the age of 60 to recover from an injury and undergoing a spinal fusion, Renee has never looked back and believes she now looks and feels better than ever. With over 12,000 followers on her Instagram account, Renee hopes to inspire others to push past their fears and pursue their dreams.
Renee works out five days a week, does cardio every day, and weighs a toned 121lbs at 5ft tall. She attributes her success to her dedicated training and her supportive trainer who encouraged her to compete. "It took several years to get the courage to put on a sparkly bikini and get on a stage in front of a bunch of strangers... but, after I did that first show, I knew I had found my people," she shared on Facebook.
Despite being the oldest person at her first competition, Renee placed sixth and has since gone on to take part in the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio, as part of the Angel Competition Bikinis Fashion Show. Her upcoming show has Renee excited, and she is currently selecting two new sparkly bikinis to wear. "I am so grateful and honored for this opportunity to represent women of a certain age at this prestigious show," she wrote on Instagram.
In addition to her physical strength, Renee's courage and self-assurance are inspiring, particularly as she overcame her fear of being the oldest person in the building. "We can be the oldest with the best attitude, and that's what I am excited about" she shared. Renee hopes that her story can inspire others to push past their fears, pursue their dreams, and find their community.
